Dear Reader,
Now we have all been there. You have booked this trip months in advance and now your period is going to ruin everything. I have never let that stop me from traveling though. Here are some tips that have saved me before and made the trip fun regardless.
Always pack period products
Look, I know your app says it is not going to happen for another week or so, but traveling can mess with your hormones, so it might come earlier. Or your girlfriend or roommate might need one. They do not take up that much space in your luggage and you will be very happy if something happens. This also includes any medication you would normally take during this time or anything else you do. You will just be happy to have it in case you need it.
Plan a more relaxed schedule
Now you might not be up for all that rock climbing and walking around you wanted to do. That is fine, you can enjoy the location just as much without having a jam-packed schedule. Sometimes it is nice to take it slow and explore a smaller area of the place or spend a day just lying on the beach if it is a waterfront location. There are many activities you can enjoy even during your period. Do not be mad at yourself if you do not end up doing all the things you planned to do as long as you still enjoyed your trip.
Consider a menstrual cup
Recently these have been floating around the internet and people have been talking about them more. However, many people are still skeptical about them. I started using one almost two years ago and would never go back. It makes traveling so much easier since it is safer for leaking and can last so much longer than tampons or pads. Also, I've heard often that it lessens cramps and makes people get through this time easier.
Find a way to pamper yourself during the trip
This might be the perfect trip to try the wellness options of your hotel or check out the local spa. Find something that you would love to relax you and do that thing. First, it will be a special experience because you do not normally do this, but it will also be good for your health. Also, enjoy the time you spend doing this thing, so it really feels special. It doesn’t have to be expensive. Just something that will make you feel special, like a walk in nature or anything really.
